Many people do not like the idea that time has a beginning, probably because it smacks of divine intervention.
For those who believe that morality comes straight from God the creator, acceptance of evolution would open a moral abyss.
Obviously Beethoven's late quartets are sublime. So are Shakespeare's sonnets. They are sublime if God is there and they are sublime if he isn't. They do not prove the existence of God; they prove the existence of Beethoven and of Shakespeare.
I am not attacking any particular version of God or gods. I am attacking God, all gods, anything and everything supernatural, wherever and whenever they have been or will be invented.
God would have to be quite inept, or malicious, to create the universe we are stuck with.
